Blown out of an open car window, a plush, gray toy elephant named Alej tumbled across the hot desert highway and landed deep inside a patch of prickly tumbleweeds. Half-buried in the dust with button eyes staring up at the empty sky, he looked completely forgotten.
Hours later, an old camper van pulled onto the shoulder to cool its boiling radiator. As the two travelers stepped out to stretch, a glint of black plastic and a patch of faded gray velvet caught their eye between the dry stalks.
One knelt down to carefully untangle Alej from the sharp thorns, while the other brushed the fine sand from his soft flannel ears and gave his squeaker a gentle squeeze. They placed the little elephant right in the center of their dashboard, surrounded by shade, cozy blankets, and warm smiles, giving Alej a brand-new home for every adventure ahead.
